2019 Feedback:
My name is I.J and my son L.J just completed his 4 day training camp with your program.
I am writing to express my appreciation for the way you personally delivered this program to its participants including my son.
I have never played organized hockey, but both my wife and I were involved in high performance level sports (volleyball and track respectively) and consequently we can see a difference, when kids and their skills are being developed by following sound and creative methodology in a supportive and also demanding environment.
I am happy to say that your program represents the best we have seen in a very long time.
I would like to thank you and congratulate you on developing a truly outstanding concept. I am sure that all players, who have ever participated in your program, must have benefited greatly.
Best regards, I. J

A Step Behind the Bench
When I chose to put my son in hockey, it was not based on the anticipated early mornings or the inevitable fundraising. Bobby Orr said it at best: “The biggest thing we get out of it is seeing the kids smile. And hopefully we will also see that the lessons we're teaching - not only the fundamentals of hockey, but also the life values - are sinking in.”
Without a doubt, I recommend Coach Kevin Yellowaga to receive the Coach Recognition Award (2014/2015 season). In highlighting the criteria for my submission, I also endorse my perspective of a coach as being a role model and a leader. My evaluation today, comes as a parent and I believe that if you choose to play team sports, you learn to build character and value your teams in a way that can even translate into the workplace later in life. What may seem to be a mere choice of fun and play, could certainly lead to passion for the game and pride to develop self and others. Coach Kevin has contributed vastly to my son this hockey season and this nomination evolved out of respect and appreciation for his Role as Coach!
Last evening, I entered the rink and observed my son run to engage his team swarm around Coach Kevin in a circle, watching him with interest, listening actively to his voice, taking and applying the directions delegated to each of them. What seemed to be a fun challenge to break a pencil, two pencils to even three pencils, was later seen as a message of strength of self and the potential strength of a team. This is only one mere example of how this coach has offered various learning opportunitiesoff the ice that translates on the ice. I know my kid just “got it,” when he had a chance to learn by doing it, then exploring questions and reflections instead of someone just telling him. Coach Kevin does not talk AT the boys, but TO them, whether he was on his knee to meet the player at eye level, or he had consoled a hurt. He has aimed those boys to display a positive image; talking to the kids about kicking water bottles that were so graciously donated to persevering when the game gets tough in some way. Coach Kevin’s nature has motivated and encouraged our team players to sustain a work hard mentality and never give up, evenfall after fall. I could hear his voice in the stands; cheering and fostering skills to each and every player, practice to games alike. It was not only for the win, but also with a player development and fun focus.
At the beginning of the season, my son talked only about scoring and number of goals, now end of season, it is in partnership with passing and assists. Just last night, a fellow team Mom shared that her son now strives for that shot on net. This came from a boy who seemed to find it a daunting task while learning to skate, moved to mid season while learning positioning, to now finding the play. That sends me a message of value! What else could we ask for as a parent?
The commitment to planning and development for practices and all other certainly need recognition. He devoted so much time and consistency to always research, design and deliver progressive practices and drills that maintained a Mission of fun, participation, player development, safety and respect. He retained interest and praise was given for any and all outcomes for the players, there was equality in the instruction; it came with assurance, demonstration and cooperation. Coach Kevin took a player centered approach yet was inclusive with instruction. His strategic lineups and switch ups characteristically seemed to build trust amongst the team and the players sensed chemistry. As the season progressed, the dressing room offered discipline yet nurturing comments exchanged between players, observations of individual player development and successes. There were reasonable expectations of the players and treatment to one another; I gathered a motto of: “Firm yet fair!”
Without forming some sense of ‘team culture,’ we only have a bunch of people running around, or in this case, skating around, without sensing a purpose or having roles and responsibilities. Coach Kevin found innovative and inspirational means to create team spirit routinely; A special cheer while calling upon the responsibility of a child to lead the chant, his learning videos, visual aids or storytelling, there’s method in his madness as the old saying goes!
I believe that it takes courage to lead and strengthen a team. The role of coach acts as a spokesperson on behalf of the team; Coach Kevin acted as a liaison to all parties displaying enthusiasm and mentorship. He communicated with the parents, clarified his decisions and invited feedback. He modelled pride and passion for the game, his eagerness to teach it and share it with others.
I nominate Kevin Yellowaga with sincerity for this award because as I see it, he delegated, planned and organized with initiative and his performance and coordination of the Role of Coach was done with dignity and poise.

Kevin,
I couldn't let this season end without thanking you for everything you have done for the team, and "C" is particular, this year. "C" entered this season liking hockey and wanting to learn more about it, but now he eats, sleeps and breathes it! And that is all thanks to you. You brought such an energy and excitement to every practice and game that it was contagious (for kids and adults alike!) and "C" always left the ice with a huge smile on his face and feeling like a million bucks.
He has learned so much, and is leaps and bounds ahead of where he started, both in his skill level and most importantly, his confidence. This kid has swagger!!
We count ourselves so lucky and thankful to have landed on your team this year. We want you to know what a profound and lasting effect you have had on "C", and that this will be a year he will never forget. You have been such a remarkable influence on him and we cannot thank you enough.
He's already counting down to summer skills camp!!

So well said, J, and all so true. I really didn't think it was possible for "Co" to love hockey anymore than he already did before this season started either, but it was possible! Every Monday "Co" would start counting down until the weekend, the next practice, team event, game, tournament... Every journal entry he has written in school this year has had to do with this hockey team, in one way or another. He has been so fortunate to have such amazing and passionate coaches, and a team filled with such great kids that have all become his buddies. Sad to have the season coming to a close too - and so is "C". Stay in touch everyone!
Thanks to all for such an awesome year and a very big thank you to Kevin for leading the year with such contagious passion!

Hey all
I know that all the speeches were done last night but we just wanted to say a special thank you to all of you. From the players, coaches, siblings and parents I have a feeling this is going to be a season to remember. 14 phenomenal families came together and took the Timbits world by storm. What a weekend to finish things off with.
Kevin your a special coach and I didn't think it was possible but "CA" ended this year with an even bigger love for this sport than I could have ever imagined and from speaking with others that applies to a lot of the other kids as well. They say life long friends are made at the rink and attached is a little photo for you which is reminding me of how fast time flies.
Players each and everyone one of you made me proud this year and I can't wait to see you all around the rink and maybe even asking me some of your famous questions like "can I be goalie" or "can I take the draws" when you all join your novice teams next season. "T" I'm in for a good cannon ball contest anytime you like.
Before I get into an email length that competes with some of Kevin's I'll just say again thanks for a special year.

- I just wanted to send you a quick email, I was very impressed by the prep camp K____ attended last week, to be honest I can't say enough good things about what was taught, and applied ! I feel short changed on money spent over the last 2 seasons after K____ finally getting some real training.Would be very interested in participating in other programs as they come available, or even small group private sessions. Thanks so much!
- I just wanted to thank you for carrying a great meaningful week of hockey camp. The learnings are far to many to list for the athletes on the ice. From a parents perspective, I thought it was great to see athletes be corrected throughout the sessions. Fantastic Job to you and your entire team all week! You and Georgina run a great camp! The best yet!
- ~ Love it all ... my kids ask daily to go see you and that means the world to us.
- We have had such a great weekend with everyone. Thank you so much for the opportunity it has been awesome.
- As mentioned he really enjoyed working with you and your style of leadership and teaching. His quote was 'high end stuff but delivered in a positive relaxed, low key' way which I think he really appreciated.
- Thanks again for the camp. I heard nothing but great things from the kids about how they were pushed to improve and loved the way you did it. I walked into N's room and took the picture attached. I think you have other fans.
- M... really enjoyed the camp and was challenged by the shooters as well. He learned lots and made some great friendships.

Coach Mentor Feedback
- Excellent. Top notch. Exactly what I envisioned and hoped for. Wait... on further thought, that's not really complimentary enough. Adam captured the kids attention immediately and energized them in their work with him. Then Puck Smart Inc. joined in (I believe it is Kevin) He was the on-ice instructor/commentator at the Saddledome on Coaching Day, and he was an instructor at my Level One Coaching a couple years ago... he's just a pleasure to watch work... And he laid out and demonstrated and helped coach the kids through the various stations. And he is an excellent teacher and motivator and "positive" coach.
Perhaps the best part: seeing half the kids collapsed on the floor at the end in happy exhaustion. Good, good stuff. Thank you. - August 26th Puck Smart Inc. Hockey School...Awesome camp "K" had fun Ioved the two kids with one stick that was really funny and frisbee, soccer the kids were having so much fun they didn't realize they were working . Thanks again "J"
- August 27th "CL": Checking Camp: Thanks Kevin! Just wanted to tell you how very impressed both "P" and I were with your camp! He had a blast and came out with a very sweaty head every day, a true sign of hard work! Thanks so much for all your efforts! "C"
- October 26th "GP": Kevin, that was awesome. After participating in your on-ice coaching sessions I’m finding I’m watching a hockey game in a different perspective. Now I’m looking at how the players skate, carry the puck, protect the puck. It gives me a whole new appreciation to how good these guys are and the skill level at which they play at. It’s really too bad we don’t get more coaches out to these sessions. It’s good for us attending as its more 1 on 1 with you. Keep up the good work, I know it’s much appreciated. "GP"
- October 27th: "JP": Guys I really enjoyed the coaches night. Great job to all involved. Good material presented... See you tonight
- December 7th: "JP" Thanks. I enjoyed it. Definitely got some good stuff I am going to try a "gates" drill with the novices tommorrow evening at practice. Will try to make classroom thursday - Jeff
- December 13th: "MR": Concussion Awareness: Thanks for sending Kevin.....a great resource for all! Thanks! "M"
- December 25th - "PS": Hey Kevin, Just wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and would like to thank you for all you do around here for us coaches. Just read your December news letter and quite enjoyed it. Our team word this year is RESPECT. Cheers, "P"
- Jan. 13th "RK": Kevin, Just wanted say what a great presentation you put together on Wednesday night. A lot of great ideas on motivating a team that we are going to put to use this Saturday on our quest to win EMHW. In that presentation, you played a song. What was the name of that song? I want to play it in the room. Thank you, "RK"
- Jan 14th "CS": What a great email, Kevin!! Thanks for sending it. Your positive support for BV is invaluable! I should also mention that "Z" is having a great year and has really improved his game as a result. He's decided to play next year, too! Thanks again "C"
- Jan. 16th "DW".... Hi Kevin, I wanted to send you a quick message regarding the email you sent parents on Friday about Esso Minor Hockey Week. First, from a mom’s perspective, it was a great reminder of why my son plays hockey and how I should encourage him and respond to games. Second, from an educator’s point of view, it was very well done and hopefully made parents aware of what really matters in their child’s sporting lives. Too often, I hear parents berating their kids during and after a game. It makes my blood boil but I rarely say anything. Your email said everything I would like to say and more. BV is very fortunate to have you working with our kids. "DW" PS My favorite line was “What would you like to eat?”!! I can’t keep "M" full these days!
- Jan 22 "BK": Thanks for all the good drills, links, and tips you've sent out lately there was some great stuff in there. BK Novice 7 Fireballs
- March 7th :"V": Hi "BG" I commented to "A", after the game last night, that I thought he was doing a better job of moving the puck, up to the forwards, in the defensive third of the ice. He commented that "Puck Smart" was on the ice, at the Mon practice, and had given him some advice on how to do a better job of this to avoid missing the pass and having the puck go to the opposing d-men waiting at the blue line. I think it's pretty cool that "Puck Smart" was able to get on the ice with the boys, at Monday's practice, and that "A" took something away from the practice that improved his game on Tuesday. "L"
Crasher Spring Hockey
BTW, "C" says that this morning's practice was "the best and funnest practice he has ever had", and in my mind I'm thinking it offered the most skill development he has ever been exposed to....great job!!!

Hi Kevin,
Due to my poor social skills, I never got around to thanking you for the opportunity to be on staff with the Crashers the past two seasons. I learned alot more about the game and more importantly, how to teach it. I know we didn't always see eye to eye on everything, but I still enjoyed the ride. I'm grateful for all your insight and to be exposed to a level of coaching that I never thought I, and the players, would never have thought possible. On ice and off, I've never seen a more committed and prepared coach. The "Co"were fortunate to have crossed paths with all the Yellowaga's.
Dear Kevin,
I hope you recognize how influential you have been in this drive for five. I am certain all my children will be successful with all the great things you have taught me and others which we try and pass on. You are a great motivator and teacher and we are so grateful for everything that you have done, and continue to do for us! I am so thankful that we met you, you are the best! Best of all you are a great person and we all love spending time with you. So if you come down that would be awesome, but we will see you tons this summer either way.
"JP and Family"
Kevin - you are absolutely right in when you say your intentions are right - and that is why PJ & I will be fine by your decision - honestly.
Your people skills are exceptional and that is why you are so sought after - this and your technical skills are very hard to find in one individual.
Keep up the great job.
