'08 CRASHERS SPRING HOCKEY
COVID CANCELLED OUR 5th SEASON AS OF MARCH 2020 and most disappointingly we were not able to get it started again. A tough one for everyone involved! I hope one day to start another CRASHERS 2013 or 2014 team to carry on this tradition!
We are excited to announce that from April - June 2020 Crashers Hockey led by Puck Smart Inc. will be entering into it's fifth season with our 2008 Spring AAA Hockey Development Program. Puck Smart Inc. has a proud tradition of Crashers Elite Spring Hockey Teams in the Calgary area having experienced success with the 1997, 2001 and 2003 Crashers Hockey Teams in the Elite Gold Division. The program will be led by Coach Kevin Yellowaga who currently works with the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL as a hockey skills coach.
The Crashers '08 team is a development first program dedicated to developing young aspiring hockey players to reach their maximum potential in the game of hockey. Following the Canadian long-term athlete development model for this age group we also believe in the importance of young athletes participating in a variety of sports (multi-sport athletes). This stage is the beginning of the most important window to develop the fine motor skills on an individual technical skill basis that leads to utilizing these skills into individual and team tactics later on. In most cases what is learned or not learned in this stage will have a very significant effect on the level of play that is achieved later on.
Our program will offer a healthy training schedule with 18 practices (24 hrs. on ice development), 2 Tournaments and 4 exhibition games. Another unique aspect of the program will be team building activities before practices. The team-building activities will promote character, camaraderie and leadership development. If you are interested in this program please fill out the registration form on-line to express your interest. Tryouts will occur in early October for the team competing in the 2019 season. The team will have a maximum of 6 defense, 9 forwards and 2 goalies. Training will take place primarily at a central location in Calgary (arenas we've used include N.E. Sportsplex, Chestermere, Flames Community, Max Bel, Stew Henry and Seton). This also may include some team training weekends out of town.
The cost of the program is $1500.00 GST included. (Includes 24 hrs. of on-ice training plus 8 hrs. of dry-land training with another 8 hrs. of off-ice team building minimum throughout the season).
There are no additional fees for this program and no hidden fees. Parents and players will do 1 fundraising event to pay for 1 travel tournament.

2019
4th season: Crashers '08 made noise in Alberta: once again served notice that they are a top team in Alberta in the Gold Division. The team took on all challengers in the 2019 Spring Season. They returned to the Champions Cup to defend last years Championship. Crashers '08 looked started very strong in this early Spring season tourney going undefeated through the round robin... winning a close one just getting by Team Alberta 5-4 in the semi-finals which put them one step away from Defending the Cup. Red Deer was up to the task as the Crashers dropped a close one 4-3 to Red Deer in the Final taking the Silver Medals and earning a 5W - 1L record to start the season.
The team continued to focus on hockey development while building a solid team culture. The Crashers took their show on the road for a MASSIVE TRAINING WEEKEND in OLDS, AB with the Crashers '07 team. This was an amazing experience as players stayed in the College dorms with a chance to experience College life. Popcorn, Ping Pong, Movies and of course dorm food were all part of the experience. We participated in an amazing Yoga Session put on by the Team at ALL ABOUT YOU FITNESS! Our off-ice training also took another step with the amazing talents of T.J who took the off-ice training for our Crashers '08 team to another level in athletic development, sprint work and plyometrics.
Our Final tournament was the Spring AAA Classic where we they lost the opener 6-3 to the eventual Champions the Eagles Academy. Congratulations to the Eagles, Red Deer and the NAS Snipers who had great seasons and gave us some great games this Spring. We hope to see the Lethbridge Battle in 2020 as well - we need a rematch please:)

2018
3rd season: A look back: The Crashers '08 and another big push forward in their development. The season included several amazing team-builders (trust and communication as major themes). 8 off-ice training sessions with specialized ground training teacher Mike Salter. Along the way they met several of the Crashers alumni who also helped coach - Maddison Smiley (former Bandit), Shane Bear (former Bandit) and Tom Lee (Chilliwack Chiefs RBC CUP Champion). With a huge commitment from all of our players (*this includes 4 players from the Brooks, Alberta area) the Crashers put together a 10W - 5L -2T on their way to a Gold medal in the Showdown in Cowtown and a Bronze Medal in the Stampede Challenge. Many highlights during the season and comebacks galore. The Crashers faced tough competition in the Gold Division and played one of their best games against the powerhouse Havoc Elite '08 team losing 8-1. Red Deer was another very challenging opponent where they split the season series 1 - 1 and we look forward to playing the Rustlers next season as well. Thank you to all of our competitors the Edmonton Ice Crushers, Spartan Yotes, Edge Mountaineers, Medicine Hat Heat, Lethbridge Battle, Foothills AAA Phantoms, and Team Alberta... they were really great competitive games this Spring season. To all of the players have a great try-out in Fall and we hope to see you all leading the way in your 2nd seasons of ATOM hockey!

2017
The Crashers '08 have completed their 2nd season in the Silver Major Division and what a success it was. The Crashers '08 team participated in two tournaments winning the P3 Cochrane Cup and finishing 3rd in the AAA Spring Classic in Edmonton. This group will continue to challenge and seek out the best competition. The Crashers '08 had a great exhibition series with the Brooks Hawks and Chestermere Raiders (very competitive hockey) and look forward to that great rivalry continuing into the 2018 Spring Season. The Crashers continue to lead the way in development both on and off the ice with their top notch team builders and focus on multi-sport athlete development and leading edge training. It was an outstanding season and everyone is looking forward to 2018!

 2016
Our first season we were very proud to introduce a unique program to Spring Hockey. The Crashers '08 were a team that allowed for a multi-sport approach towards athlete development. Within 10 practice development sessions, 1 tournament and 2 exhibition games coaches, parents and players could see an improvement in the players abilities on the ice along with the teamwork which was evident in how they moved the puck and how well they got along off the ice. We wanted to create an atmosphere where they were hungry for more hockey and I can safely say we were able to accomplish that. Even with a modified spring season the Crashers '08 managed to finish with 2W 2L and 2T and were definitely the king of the comebacks in their first season making them a most exciting team to watch. We had a great coaching staff as well and thanks to Assistant coaches Alexandra Moffatt and Taylor Waters and the many Crashers Alumni who were always eager to help on the ice. We look forward to next Spring Season and can't wait for it to start! THE VERY VERY BEST!

 2014/2015/2016
CRASHERS '03 SEASON THREE: HOW WE GONNA DO IT? CRASH AND BANG! WHO ARE WE? CRASHERS! WHAT ARE WE? TEAM FIRST... The 3rd Season ended up being our most successful to date in Crashers History! The Crashers '03 Team was able to have a 10W-8L-1T season making the finals in Jasper. Success would ultimately be measured on whether the players were prepared for body-checking and ultimately quadrant hockey. In terms of our process we ran 5 sessions of body checking off-ice and 5 sessions of body checking on ice as well as daily contact drills in practices. In terms of values on and off the ice the CRASHERS '03 Team embraced the 7 C's by using them on the ice, in the many team-builders and in the community all 7 were used to guide them: Character, Commitment, Coachability, Courage, Composure, Connectedness and Competitiveness. I will probably be most impressed with this group for a number of reasons: 1. Their compete is extremely high. 2. A very resilient group who never give up despite the scoreboard or the challenge they face 3. They were the closest knit team I have ever been a part of - they genuinely cared for each other. 4. This team performed in the Top 5 in Alberta in the Elite division. 5. They did it all with class!

CRASHERS '03 SEASON TWO: Crasher's '03 unveiled their 3rd logo that will be featured on their track suits and dry-land gear. So thrilled to welcome 4 new players to the Crasher group. The Crasher's started the 2015 season with a Team Training Camp in Olds, Alberta March 28th and 29th. The players had some great skill development sessions along with some great team building activities. The Crasher's were also treated to special guest speaker EARLE CONNOR who is not only a two time Olympic Gold Medalist but also a great person and fantastic motivational speaker. Earle's story is unlike any other that I have ever heard. Earle's journey has been full of peaks and valley's and the kids were so inspired by his story. We wish Earle all the best in the Pan Am games this summer in Toronto and also in his quest for a 3rd Olympic Gold. The weekend also included a crazy iPod scavenger hunt!
There were many games to highlight as well this year with a 5W 7L and 2 T record. I think it is safe to say we were competitive with any of the "Elite" teams out there. Lots of great games this year and the kids were in all of them. Most impressed when you can see the kids executing properly and dictating the play. Away from the arena we continued to learn and build character and togetherness through our Teambuilders: team song; team microphone; team weekend with Earle Connor; iPod scavenger hunt; bottle drive; kite flying; baseball; caterpillar crawl; tchoukball; soccer; lacrosse; conveyor belt; sponge wars; blindfolded dodgeball; jump in jump out warm-up; hole in the cup relay; waterballoon toss; under the net volleyball; Landmines and the AVENGERS movie night to name a few.
It's a great group that I am honoured to coach and I look forward to supporting them in achieving their goals. The Crasher's are excited and looking forward to capturing their eighth "C" (CHAMPIONS 2016).

We wanted to make sure that this group had a unique development experience and by all accounts we hit the mark. Some incredible team-builders along the way filled with many lessons that helped us become a close knit group both on and off the ice.
We participated in 3 tournaments and posted a 1 and 3 record in the Alberta Champions Cup in our first tournament of the Spring Season. We then participated in the Canada Cup tourney in May where we managed one tie along with 4 tough losses. Our win loss record was not strong after 2 tournaments but we also knew we were facing the best Gold teams in Western Canada. Most of the games were very close after 2 but it wasn't enough. We figured out that we could compete in the tough Gold division, the trick for our group would be to continue to find ways to maintain our energy for 3 periods.
The final tournament of the year in June - Calgary Hitmen International Spring Hockey Tournament - included the Red Deer Rustlers who beat us 2 times earlier in the season, the NAA All Blacks who beat us in the ACC and the BC Interior Selects from Nelson. In order to show well in our final tourney we would have to rise up to another level and that's exactly what the Crasher '03 group was able to do. The third time would be the charm against Red Deer and in one of the most intense games of the season the Crasher's emerged victorious winning 7-6 in a 2 hr. and 15 minute marathon game. After completing the round robin with a 4-0 record the Crasher's would next face the NAA All Blacks in the Tournament semi-final. The Crasher's again fought hard and the game finished in a 2-2 tie, which meant a 5 minute overtime and if necessary a shoot-out. The Crasher's scored on the 5th shooter winning 3-2 and were headed to the team's first Final in Crasher history! Crasher's meet Red Deer one more time after they beat the BC Interior 9-2 in the other semi-final. After 5 consecutive wins the Crasher's would give it their all in the Final but came up short against Red Deer falling 9-3.

2011/ 2012/ 2013
Bigger Strong and Faster definitely holds true for the '01 group and what a difference a year makes as they are all preparing for Bantam Hockey next season. I am very proud of this group as they continue on their mission to truly represent the CRASHER 7 C's with pride and class. They know what their BRAND is and they are very focused and determined to make some noise in the 2014 Spring Hockey Season. This year the Crasher's '01 will see several elite development coaches in a variety of fields both on and off the ice. They continue to take advantage of so many great learning opportunities which will culminate this season with a tournament in Green Bay. This will include a tour of a few NCAA schools well they are there.
The Crasher '01 program had it's inaugural season in the spring of 2012. Last year was spent preparing the players for the challenges they would be facing as 1st year Pee Wee players and the introduction of body checking. With one year of checking under their belts the players are aware that there will still be more challenges heading into this season and playing in the Gold division. Our team size has grown from just 14 players last season to 20 players in 2013. We have a tremendous group of parents and players that are supportive of player development and the journey it will take them on. They understand that although the path to the top of the mountain is not always smooth and they realize the hard work, effort and commitment it will take to keep moving forward.
Our Crasher '01 team philosophy is based on developing the whole player. Our vision is to give the players the best possible environment to develop all of their abilities as hockey players and citizens. The Crasher '01 team is a joint effort between Puck Smart Inc. and Rouge Ashmead. This is a program that believes firmly in the ideals of the LTAD plan. We have a balanced schedule that includes 12 Dry-land sessions, 10 Team-builders, 4 Classroom sessions, 23 Practices, 5 Exhibition games and 1 Tournament. Our theme this year is WHAT'S YOUR WHY? and our players are very motivated to make this their best spring season to date.
Our on ice skills development is a priority as it lays the foundation for being able to execute tactics and strategies. The team continues working hard on improving offensive concepts and generating more scoring chances. You can also see improvements in angling, contact and d-zone coverage and the development of good habits. The team is benefitting off the ice participating in a variety of fitness activities that includes wrestling, boxing, xfit and yoga.
The Crasher '01 team is continuing to develop both on and off the ice and are looking forward to the next challenges that are right in front of us all! Also proud to announce that all of our players will be playing Quadrant hockey for the 2015-16 Season! Wishing you all your best seasons to date!
The Crasher '01 program had it's inaugural season in the spring of 2012. Last year was spent preparing the players for the challenges they would be facing as 1st year Pee Wee players and the introduction of body checking. With one year of checking under their belts the players are aware that there will still be more challenges heading into this season and playing in the Gold division. Our team size has grown from just 14 players last season to 20 players in 2013. We have a tremendous group of parents and players that are supportive of player development and the journey it will take them on. They understand that although the path to the top of the mountain is not always smooth and they realize the hard work, effort and commitment it will take to keep moving forward.
Our Crasher '01 team philosophy is based on developing the whole player. Our vision is to give the players the best possible environment to develop all of their abilities as hockey players and citizens. The Crasher '01 team is a joint effort between Puck Smart Inc. and Rouge Ashmead. This is a program that believes firmly in the ideals of the LTAD plan. We have a balanced schedule that includes 12 Dry-land sessions, 10 Team-builders, 4 Classroom sessions, 23 Practices, 5 Exhibition games and 1 Tournament. Our theme this year is WHAT'S YOUR WHY? and our players are very motivated to make this their best spring season to date.
Our on ice skills development is a priority as it lays the foundation for being able to execute tactics and strategies. The team continues working hard on improving offensive concepts and generating more scoring chances. You can also see improvements in angling, contact and d-zone coverage and the development of good habits. The team is benefitting off the ice participating in a variety of fitness activities that includes wrestling, boxing, xfit and yoga.
The Crasher '01 team is continuing to develop both on and off the ice and are looking forward to the next challenges that are right in front of us all! Also proud to announce that all of our players will be playing Quadrant hockey for the 2015-16 Season! Wishing you all your best seasons to date!

'97 CRASHERS
2009 and 2010
The Crasher hockey program began in the spring of 2009. Puck Smart Inc. had a shared vision of hockey development and values with Mike Lee and they set out to create a team of 1997 born players. The '97's would be beginning their first season of hitting and even the name CRASHER'S was initially create to raise awareness that this is just another part of the game. We Crash and Bang and Learn became our first chant. Skill development, hockey sense and body checking were components built into all of our practices. We were aware that we were not the leading or elite players in Calgary but rather the ones that we feel had the greatest character. We were proud that out of 65 players that attended the tryouts we picked the 18 best (character and work ethic). At the core of everything the CRASHER'S did were their values. They believe and put into action the 7 C's: Commitment, Courage, Composure, Coachability, Character, Competitiveness and Connections. We believe that it is these values that help shape and guide us in our hockey development.
Each year the '97 Crasher team would face their stiffest competition in the Elite Division of the Subway Challenge in Winnipeg (now known as the River City Sports North American Classic). The Crasher's improved each year of the tournament and in the 2010 Subway Challenge managed 2 wins. A highlight of the year was defeating the previously undefeated Jr. Flames 3-2. This was further evidence of the belief, values and work ethic that this group put forth each day of the program.
There are currently 3 Crashers '97 Alumni playing in the Western Hockey League, 6 Crasher '97 Alumni playing in the AJHL, and 3 Crasher '97 Alumni playing in the KIJHL. Wishing them all the best and continued success.
